I Write, Therefore I Am
Let’s Start at the Very Beginning
“Someone once asked me why it is so hard to find a good writer.
I told them it was because good writing is an illusion. What people call good writing is actually good thinking.
And, of course, good thinking is rare.”
Why This, Why Now
I start with a single objective. To write more, clearly.
Why Do I Want To Write More?
When I am writing, I am thinking.
When I am thinking, I am reading.
I am listening. I am questioning. I am reflecting.
When I am thinking, reading, listening, questioning, reflecting, and then distilling all that into meaning through my writing, I am being my best self.
I Want To Write More
I want to write more… to reflect.
I want to better understand and organise my thoughts. I want to convert all those dot points and post-it notes of my brain into meaning. To distill and process, to move on, to evolve.
I want to write more… to force myself to practice and improve.
I want to bring together data and stories - emotion and persuasion in equal parts.
I want to keep challenging myself to say more with less.
I want to write more… to share my thoughts and help shape opinions.
I want to ask questions and challenge the status quo. As much as I am seeking feedback, I am also seeking validation. I want to spark discussions and debates.
I want to write more… to help me find a release, a creative focus.
I want to write more… to help me develop a discipline, a routine.
I want to write more… to help me to connect, and reconnect.
So What? Now What?
This is the beginning.
I am committing myself. To support a positive routine and self-discipline.
If you are reading this, all I ask is that you hold me accountable too.
Poke and prod. Ask questions and debate. If you are interested in a topic and want to discuss it in more detail, let’s grab a coffee…
Themes that I expect I’ll spend most of my time exploring here are those values that I hold closest to my heart - around Discovery, Leadership, Community, Impact…
Important topics like Politics, the Economy, Society as a whole.
Mental Health. Connection. Digital Disruption. Technology and Innovation.
I hope and expect that this platform will also provide me (and us) with an opportunity to share and reconnect with hobbies and activities from years gone past - from music and art, to iconic speeches, movies, podcasts and beyond… food for the brain…
What’s on your mind?
Hit me up…
